effects on today
Today people are prohibited from using chemical weapons (An organization called the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling, and Use of Chemical Weapons and their Destruction got 183 countries to sign a treaty that prohibited chemical warfare.) but that doesn't stop some from using them.

It is in this way poison gas warfare had such a giant effect on warfare both in WWI and now. The gasses themselves and the ones they led to, the protection that was created from the masks back then, and the destruction the gasses caused led to a treaty that stopped this kind of violence. Yet this question remains: Will we ever learn to stop using such a destructive force?
